Mahjong Lessons & Open Play with Four Bam Birds

Ready to learn mahjong, or take your game to the next level? Join Four Bam Birds Mahjong at James River Cellars for an afternoon of learning, guided practice, and play. Whether you’ve never touched a mahjong tile or you’re already familiar with the game, there’s a ticket option designed for where you are in your mahjong journey.

Mahjong 102 / Guided Play – $60

For players who have completed Mahjong 101. Ready to put what you’ve learned into practice? Mahjong 102 gives newer players the opportunity to play actual games with guidance from experienced instructors. You’ll have a chance to ask questions, build confidence, and learn as you play.

Think of 102 as the bridge between learning the basics and playing independently. Arrive by 5:30 for a 15 minute refresher on game play, play will be guided from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Open Play – $20

For experienced players who are ready to play on their own.

Already know mahjong and feel comfortable playing without instruction? Join us for open play and enjoy some friendly games with fellow mahjong enthusiasts. Open Play is intended for players who have already completed a mahjong lesson and have their own current NMJL card. Instruction is not provided during Open Play.

Schedule & Arrival

Please plan to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled start time to check in, grab a drink, and get settled before your session begins. Your ticket time is the start of the lesson or play session, not the recommended arrival time.

Mahjong 102/Guided Play: 5:30-8:00pm
Open Play: 6:00-8:00pm

Last Call is at 7:30pm. All sessions end at 8:00pm

Wine, beer, and food are available for purchase separately from James River Cellars during the event. Come for the mahjong, stay for the drinks, and make an afternoon of it!
